Glossary
The words of AI search, in plain English.
AI search has picked up a lot of new words. Here's what each one means, and where it shows up in Suggestible.
- AEO (answer engine optimisation)
Shaping a page so an assistant can lift a clear answer from it: the answer near the top, headings that match the question, and lists or tables where they help. Suggestible's page audits check for these.
How audits work- AI assistant
A tool that writes an answer to a question rather than listing links, such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity. Suggestible includes ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini and Perplexity on every plan.
- AI bots and robots.txt
Assistants send bots to search the web and to fetch pages while they answer. A website's robots.txt file says which bots may visit, and blocking an assistant's search bot can keep your pages out of its answers. Bots that collect pages for training are a separate choice, which is yours to make.
- AI visibility
How often AI assistants name your brand when people ask about what you sell, where in the answer they name you, and how they describe you.
- AI Visibility Score
Suggestible's score out of 100 for how visible a brand is in AI answers. It adds up seven figures you can see in the app, from how often you're named to how ready your site is for AI.
How tracking works- Branded and unbranded prompts
A branded prompt includes your brand's name, and an unbranded one doesn't. Unbranded prompts show whether AI suggests you to people who haven't heard of you yet, which is why they count for the most in the score.
- Citation
A link an assistant attaches to its answer to show where a point came from. Only answers that searched the web carry links, so Suggestible counts links against those answers alone.
- GEO (generative engine optimisation)
Making your brand easy for AI assistants to trust and name when they write an answer. In practice it overlaps with AEO, and many people use the two words for the same work.
- Google AI Mode
Google's conversational search, where you ask in full sentences and get a written answer with links. It sits apart from the usual results.
- Google AI Overviews
The written summary Google shows above the usual results for some searches, with links to the pages it drew on.
- MCP (Model Context Protocol)
An open standard that lets an AI assistant connect to other tools and read their data. Suggestible's MCP connection lets Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants read your results without changing them.
Ask and connections- Named
An assistant said your brand in its answer. "Named early" means it said your brand near the top, before most of the other brands it listed.
- Place
The country, region or city a prompt is asked from. Answers change from place to place, so one question can be asked in several places.
- Prompt
One question tracked in one place. In Suggestible the plain question counts as one prompt, and each place you add counts as one more.
- Run day
The day Suggestible asks every tracked prompt again. Run days fall every 3 days on one calendar for every account, so trends compare fairly.
How tracking works- SEO (search engine optimisation)
Helping search engines find, read and rank your pages. Most of it still matters for AI, because assistants that search the web often start from search results.
- Structured data (schema markup)
Code in a page that labels what the page is about, such as an organisation, an article, an FAQ or a how-to, so machines can read it without guessing.
- Tone (sentiment)
Whether an answer that names you speaks well of you, neutrally or badly. Suggestible reads the tone of each answer that names you.
